The Bailes Brothers, Dust on the Bible

I went into a home one day to see some friends of mine
Of all their books and magazines not a Bible could I find
I asked them for a Bible, when they brought it what a shame
The dust was covered over it, not a fingerprint was plain

Dust on the Bible, dust on the holy word
The words of all the prophets and the sayings of our Lord
Of all the other books you’ll find, there’s none salvation holds
Get the dust off the Bible and redeem your poor soul

The Bailes Brothers were signed to Columbia Records in 1945, and their original song Dust on the Bible was one of their earliest hits. This was collected on The Smithsonian Collection of Classic Country Music released in 1981. It is also available on Oh So Many years from Bear Records, 2002.
