Beech Fork Lake, located in Cabell and Wayne counties in West Virginia, was constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and opened to the public in 1978. The lake was created by damming the Beech and Miller forks of Twelvepole Creek. Beech Fork Lake provides outdoor recreational opportunities and flood control, and consists of more than 720 acres of water with an additional 3,981 acres of land in adjoining Beech Fork State Park. There are boat rentals and a boat launch ramp, picnicking and playgrounds, and hiking trails. The dam and visitors center are located in Wayne County, at the town of Lavalette, while Beech Fork Lake State Park is in southwestern Cabell County.
